Disclaimer
Dark Canary is a community awareness tool, not a law enforcement resource. All sighting reports displayed in the App are unverified community observations submitted by users via the Bluesky social network. These reports do not constitute legal evidence and should not be treated as verified facts.
The developers and contributors of Dark Canary make no representations or warranties about the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of any data presented. Users should independently verify any information before taking action based on it.
Not Legal Advice
Nothing in this App constitutes legal advice. Links to third-party organizations (such as the ACLU, immigration legal directories, or government resources) are provided for informational purposes only. Dark Canary does not endorse, verify, or assume responsibility for the content of any external resources. If you are facing an immigration-related situation, consult a qualified attorney.
Data Sources
Sighting data is sourced from public posts on the Bluesky network (AT Protocol). Dark Canary reads publicly available posts that use specific hashtags and lexicons. We do not scrape private data or access non-public content. The accuracy and timeliness of the data depends entirely on what users post publicly on Bluesky.

What We Collect
- Push notification subscriptions: Stored in Cloudflare Workers KV. Contains only the endpoint URL and encryption keys needed to send push notifications. Not linked to any personal identity.
- Watch zone coordinates: The geographic coordinates of your alert zones are stored alongside your push subscription to determine notification relevance.
- Submitted reports: If you submit a sighting report, the location, description, and optional photo are published as a public Bluesky post. Anonymous reports are posted via a service account.
What We Do Not Collect
- No cookies or tracking pixels
- No analytics or advertising SDKs
- No email addresses, phone numbers, or account registrations
- No IP address logging
- No selling or sharing of data with third parties
Bluesky & AT Protocol
Dark Canary interacts with the Bluesky social network via the AT Protocol. Reports submitted through a Bluesky account are governed by Bluesky's Terms of Service. Public posts on Bluesky are visible to anyone and are stored on the decentralized AT Protocol network. Dark Canary does not control or moderate content on Bluesky.
Open Source
Dark Canary is an open-source project. The source code is publicly available for review and contribution. We believe in transparency — anyone can audit how the App works, what data it processes, and how reports are handled.
Limitation of Liability
The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the developers and contributors shall not be held liable for any loss, injury, or damage arising from the use of or reliance on information provided by this App.
